When Your Life is Put on Hold
“Val, your life is put on hold.”
This may be a statement that a lot of us have been struggling with. When the pandemic hit us last 2020, our lives were put on hold. Our plans and dreams suddenly were ruined. And we have no choice about it. This is exactly where I am at.
Last May 2021, I finally graduated with my Master of Divinity at the International Graduate School of Leadership. I thought this is the real start of my full-time service to the Lord. I had a lot of ministry dreams. I started a business as a mission and have been sharing the Gospel and discipling our workers. I led an adult bible study group on zoom. And I wanted to do more things for God. But just a few months later, Leukemia had put my life on hold.
For someone as active as I am and who has never been sick my entire life. This was a total reversal. Even when I was in the first few days of my disease and I was very weak, my mind was still active, and wanted to do things on my own. There I realized that the mind and spirit are able yet my body is not. This disease has kept me from going out of the hospital room, from eating my favorite food, and from meeting people. Because my immune system is so low, I can anytime catch a serious infection or fever.
“What can I do when my life is put on hold?”
This has been a question in my mind since the beginning of my diagnosis. I prayed to God and asked Him about what I can do during this time of isolation and healing. “Lord, what can I do for you?”
As I reflect, the Lord’s answer was to go and share my life so that He would be made known. This is not something new. God has always called me to a life of service. In fact, we are all called to a life of service.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
I realized that writing and sharing my story on Facebook have been a blessing to a lot of people. Whenever I post an update about my health and reflection about my faith in God, a lot of friends, family and even strangers reach out to say they are moved to reflect on their own faith. With that, I have seen how God is calling me to write more and share more about His faithfulness and goodness in my life. Even though I am at the hospital, I can still do something for the Lord and for others. That’s why I immediately kept myself busy in creating a blog so I can let my little light shine.
So if you feel like your life is put on hold, let me encourage you that you can always find something to do and move on with your life.
Do not let the setbacks be a reason for you to not move forward. Instead, allow your setbacks to be the fuel to your new dreams. Learn to have fresh eyes to see what God is calling you to do in this season.
Friends, together, let us let our little light shine for the glory of God!

So happy to read your blogs and seeing how you have been turning the setbacks in your life into opportunities. I am reminded of the passage in Proverbs 19:21,
“Many are the plans in the mind of a man,
but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.”
What seems as setbacks to us are God’s way of carving something new and better in our lives. I appreciate you Valerie for surrendering to His plan and allowing yourself to be a vessel for His glory.
Keep the light flaming for His glory!!!
Remembering you and your family always in our prayer!!! 🙏
Hug you tight!!! ❤️
